In the Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful

The Jinn

In the Name of Allah, The Beneficient, The Merciful

Ascribing to Allah as partners
Q6:100; Yet they make the Jinns (Genies: creature which has been created out of
fire) as the partners with Allah, whereas He is their Creator; and also ascribe to Him sons and daughters without having any knowledge. Glory to Him! He is highly exalted far above what they ascribe.

Belief of in the Quran
Q72:1,2; O Prophet say: “It has been revealed to me that a band of jinns listened to the Qur’an, then returned to their folk and said: ‘We have heard a wonderful Qur’an; which guides to the Right Way. We have believed in it and henceforth shall worship none besides Our Rabb.

Creation of as a Favour of Allah
Q55: 15-16; and created jinns from smokeless fire. So, O jinn and men, which of your Rabb’s favors will both of you deny?

Inventing kinship between Allah and the jinn
Q37: 158-159; They assert blood-relationship between Him and the jinns; and the jinns know quite well that they will be called to account. Glory be to Allah! He is free from what they ascribe to Him

Man and jinn, cooperation in evil between them
Q6:128-130; On the Day when He will assemble them all together, ( Allah will address the Jinns): “O assembly of Jinns! You seduced mankind in great number.” And their votaries from among mankind will say: “Our Rabb, we have both enjoyed each other’s fellowship but alas! Now we have reached the end of our term which You had decreed for us.” Then Allah will say: “Now hellfire is your dwelling-place; you will live therein forever unless Allah ordains otherwise.”
Surely your Rabb is Wise, knowledgeable.

129 That is how, in the hereafter, We will make wrongdoers the comrades of one another on account of what they earned during their life on Earth with evil friendship.

130 At that time Allah will also ask: “O Assembly of Jinns and mankind! Did not there come to you the Rasools from amongst you who proclaimed to you My revelations and warned you about the meeting of this Day?” They will reply: “Yes they did, We bear witness against our own souls.” Today this worldly life has deceived them but on that Day they will testify against themselves that they were indeed kuffar (unbelievers).

Muhammad to respond to / Quran also meant for
Q46 v29-32; 29 Tell them how We brought to you a group of jinns, who when they reached the place where you were reciting and listened to the Qur’an, said to each other: “Be silent.” When the recitation was over, they returned to their people as warners. 30 They said “O our people! We have just listened to a Book that has been revealed after Musa which is confirming that what came before it, and it guides to the truth and to the Right Way. 31 O our people, answer the one who is calling you towards Allah and believe in him! Allah will forgive you your sins and save you from a painful punishment. 32 He that does not answer the one who is calling towards Allah, shall neither escape in the earth, nor shall have any to protect from Him. Surely such people are in manifest error.”

Seeking the Protection of
Q72:6-7; 6 Indeed, some individuals among mankind used to seek protection with some individuals among the jinns, so they caused such jinns to become more arrogant, 7 as a result, they presumed as you presumed that Allah would not appoint anyone as a Rasool.

Worshipping
41 They will respond: “Glory be to You! Our tie is with You – as a protector – not with them; but they used to worship the jinns and it was them in whom most of these people believed.” 42 On that Day you will be helpless to profit or harm one another. To the wrongdoers We shall say: “Taste the punishment of the fire which you persistently denied.”

Sahih Al Bukhari

1.583; Narrated Abdul Rahman: Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri told my father, “I see you liking sheep and the wilderness. So whenever you are with your sheep or in the wilderness and you want to pronounce Adhan for the prayer raise your voice in doing so, for whoever hears the Adhan, whether a human being, a jinn or any other creature, will be a witness for you on the Day of Resurrection.” Abu Said added, “I heard it (this narration) from Allah’s Apostle.”

1.740; Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Prophet set out with the intention of going to Suq ‘Ukaz (market of ‘Ukaz) along with some of his companions. At the same time, a barrier was put between the devils and the news of heaven. Fire commenced to be thrown at them. The devils went to their people, who asked them, “What is wrong with you?” They said, “A barrier has been placed between us and the news of heaven. And fire has been thrown at us.” They said, “The thing which has put a barrier between you and the news of heaven must be something which has happened recently. Go eastward and westward and see what has put a barrier between you and the news of heaven.” Those who went towards Tuhama came across the Prophet at a place called Nakhla and it was on the way to Suq ‘Ukaz and the Prophet was offering the Fajr prayer with his companions. When they heard the Qur’an they listened to it and said, “By Allah, this is the thing which has put a barrier between us and the news of heaven.” They went to their people and said, “O our people; verily we have heard a wonderful recital (Qur’an) which shows the true path; we believed in it and would not ascribe partners to our Lord.” Allah revealed the following verses to his Prophet (Sura ‘Jinn’) (72): “Say: It has been revealed to me.” And what was revealed to him was the conversation of the Jinns.

5.206; Narrated Abdullah bin Umar: I never heard ‘Umar saying about something that he thought it would be so-and-so, but he was quite right. Once, while ‘Umar was sitting, a handsome man passed by him, ‘Umar said, “If I am not wrong, this person is still on his religion of the pre-Islamic period of ignorance or he was their foreteller. Call the man to me.” When the man was called to him, he told him of his thought. The man said, “I have never seen such a day on which a Muslim is faced with such an accusation.” ‘Umar said, “I am determined that you should tell me the truth.” He said, “I was a foreteller in the pre-Islamic period of ignorance.” Then ‘Umar said, “Tell me the most astonishing thing your female Jinn has told you of.” He said, “One-day while I was in the market, she came to me scared and said, ‘Haven’t you seen the Jinns and their despair and they were overthrown after their defeat (and prevented from listening to the news of the heaven) so that they (stopped going to the sky and) kept following camel-riders (i.e. ‘Arabs)?’ ” ‘Umar said, “He is right,” and added, “One day while I was near their idols, there came a man with a calf and
slaughtered it as a sacrifice (for the idols). An (unseen) creature shouted at him, and I have never heard harsher than his voice. He was crying, ‘O you bold evil-doer! A matter of success! An eloquent man is saying: None has the right to be worshipped except you (O Allah).’ On that the people fled, but I said, ‘I shall not go away till I know what is behind this.’ Then the cry came again: ‘O you bold evil-doer! A matter of success! An eloquent man is saying: None has the right to be worshipped except Allah.’ I then went away and a few days later it was said, ‘A prophet has appeared.’ “

7.657; Narrated ‘Aisha: Some people asked Allah’s Apostle about the fo
retellers. He said. “They are nothing.” They said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Sometimes they tell us of a thing which turns out to be true.” Allah’s Apostle said, “A Jinn snatches that true word and pours it into the ear of his friend (the foreteller) (as one puts something into a bottle). The foreteller then mixes with that word one hundred lies.”

Sahih Muslim

1280: Narrated AbuHurayrah: Allah’s Apostle (peace be upon him) said: There are one hundred (parts of) mercy of Allah and He has sent down out of these one part of mercy upon the jinn and human beings and the insects and it is because of this (one part) that they love one another, show kindness to one another and even the beast treats its young one with affection, and Allah has reserved ninety-nine parts of mercy with which He would treat His servants on the Day of Resurrection.

1308: Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas’ud: Allah’s Apostle (peace be upon him) said:
There is none amongst you with whom is not an attache from amongst the jinn
(devil). They (the Companions) said: Allah’s Apostle (peace be upon him) with you too? Thereupon he said: Yes, but Allah helps me against him and so I am safe from his hand and he does not command me but for good.

208: Narrated Ibn Mas’ud: Dawud reported from Amir who said: I asked Alqamah if Ibn Mas’ud were present with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on the night of the Jinn (the night when the Holy Prophet met them). He (Ibn Mas’ud) said: No, but we were in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) one night and we missed him. We searched for him in the valleys and the hills and said: He has either been taken away (by Jinn) or has been secretly killed. He (the narrator) said: We spent the worst night that people could ever spend. When it was dawn we saw him coming from the side of Hira’. He (the narrator) reported: We said: Messenger of Allah, we missed you and searched for you, but we could not find you and we spent the worst night that people could ever spend. He (the Holy Prophet) said: There came to me petitioner on behalf of the Jinn and I went with him and recited the Qur’an to them. He (the narrator) said: He then went with him and showed us their tracks and the traces of their embers. They (the Jinn) asked him (the Holy Prophet) about their provision and he said: Every bone on which the name of Allah is recited is your provision. The time it falls in your hand it shall be covered with flesh, and the dung of (the camels) is fodder for your animals. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Don’t perform istinja with these (things) for these are the food of your brothers (Jinn).

Hadith Qudsi

#17:
O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another. O My servants, all of you are astray except for those I have guided, so seek guidance of Me and I shall guide you, O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you. O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you. O My servants, you will not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and will not attain benefitting Me so as to benefit Me. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, that would not increase My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any one man of you, that would not decrease My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more that a needle decreases the sea if put into it. O My servants, it is but your deeds that I reckon up for you and then recompense you for, so let him finds good praise Allah and let him who finds other that blame no one but himself.

Fiqh us Sunnah

1.18b; Qatadah related from ‘Abdullah ibn Sarjas who said, “The Messenger of Allah forbade urination into a hole.” Said Qatadah, “What is disliked about urinating into a hole?” Said he, “It is the residence of the jinn.” This hadith is related by Ahmad, an-Nasa’i, Abu Dawud, al-Hakim and al-Baihaqi. Ibn Khuzaimah and Ibn as-Sakin classified it as sahih.

4.126; Anas reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “The barrier between the eyes of the Jinn and the nakedness of the Children of Adam is [created] when a Muslim discards a garment and says, ‘In the name of Allah besides Whom there is no other god’.” (Ibn As-Sinni)

4.146; Abdullah ibn ‘Umar reported that when the Prophet, peace be upon him, was travelling or fighting (in the cause of Allah) and night came on, he said, “O earth, my Lord and your Lord is Allah. I seek refuge in Allah from your evil, the evil of what you contain, the evil of what has been created in you, and the evil of what creeps upon you. I seek refuge in Allah from lions, from large black snakes, from other snakes, from scorpions, from the evil of jinn who inhabit settlements, and from a parent and his offspring.’’ (Ahmad and Abu Daw’ud)
